Wish we were all in Fargo, snowed in at Ralph's for New Year's. But, since we aren't, here's a bitchin' Prince party song.

The Troll Hunter - Official Trailer

Finally got Those Comic Sketches

Hey Deutero Isaiah - I finally got those sketch cards that I ordered back in April or May of '09 - I think they're totally worth the wait - pretty bad ass. Did you ever get that Thor one you ordered? I know at some point I emailed him to update my new address... maybe you did too. If you did get it or if you do get it please post it. I'd love to see it.

First Trailer for Thor

Looks good. I hadn't realized Anthony Hopkins would be Odin. That's a nice choice.

So this big debate on science and ethics happened at Arizona State. Some heavy-hitters on the philosophy side took part (only one participant was from ASU, and I don't know who that guy is, but the visiting philosophers Peter Singer, Simon Blackburn, and Patricia Churchland are all bigshots). I haven't watched all of it yet, but it looks pretty great.

Update: Click here to go watch it at The Science Network if this post just look like an embed code.

Dirk Gently

It looks like they're making a tv series out of Douglas Adams's "Dirk Gently" books (which are pretty great books). It looks pretty good. How do I get BBC 4?

I Have Mixed Feelings About This

It's mostly a mixture of lots of different very uncomfortable feelings, though.

The Maria Bamford Show

Kelsi pointed out some good Maria Bamford stuff to me recently. I highly recommend all 20 episodes of the Maria Bamford Show, all easily findable on youtube. She was also on an episode of Marc Maron's podcast WTF.

David Lynch meets Spiderman

So Warren Ellis held a contest for people to make movie posters, imagining a Spiderman movie directed by David Lynch. The results are here. There aren't any on the first page, but click through the other 7 pages - some really good ones in there.

soon-to-be newly reprinted Jodorowsky comics from Humanoids

Humanoids will be reprinting a bunch of cool Jodorowsky, Moebius, and other European comics in the coming months; From Jodo in December is 'Madwoman of the Sacred Heart' and The 'Incal Classic Collection' (which is a very limited series and looks amazing.) In January is 'Weapons of the Metabarons' and in February is Volume 3 of the Technopriests series (I only have 1 and 2 and thought it might have stayed that way if not for this reprint.)

Check out all of the upcoming Humanoids releases here: http://www.humanoids.com/book-list/schedule-forthcoming

Game of Thrones

I'm not sure why, but I'm not all that excited about this show coming out. Maybe because Martin is dragging his feet on finishing the series, or maybe it's just epic fatigue. I think maybe I can only get excited about an epic story in one format. The Lord of the Rings is an exception, I guess, though I never really went crazy about the movies. But I don't really have any interest in the Wheel of Time comics, and I'm not jazzed about seeing the new Harry Potter movie (though I probably will). I hope they never make Asimov's Foundation series into a comic, movie, or tv show. They did a radio production of it, but that was so condensed it wasn't too threatening.

Strange Interview With Charles Burns

Have you guys read "X'ed Out" yet? I read it in Barnes & Noble the other day. It was pretty good - looking forward to the next one.

Serge Gainsbourg la chanson de Prévert

Do either of you guys listen to Serge Gainsbourg? Have any recommendations of his stuff (other than this nice song)?

Fire Chilly

On my way up to the cabin this weekend, I saw a bar near Mille Lacs with a big sign out front and I saw the word "Fire" on it plus another word that didn't register. I thought it looked nice and cozy and must have an inviting fire blazing inside. Then I looked more carefully and the other word was "Childress". I thought that was funny.

Thor's Playlist

Since this was the variant cover to Thor #601, and this is our blog post #601, I had to post this. I snagged this comic last Free Comic Book Day (not for free, but it was on sale). There's some debate over what Thor is listening to on his iPod. Wagner? AC/DC? Jeffrey Lewis & The Junkyard?

Evil Boy

Die Antwoord - Evil Boy from Billy Deathmetal on Vimeo.

New video from Die Antwoord. Don't let Sophia watch this. Check out this boingboing post for info on the song, such as why it's not as homophobic as it may seem. The comments are worth reading, especially the gray ones Xeni Jardin wrote.

Fun with Old Baseball Cards

Here's a Sample:

What kinda pizza do you like, bro? Pepperoni? Ha! That’s not fucking pizza, man. That’s so funny. What kinda calculator do you use? Texas Instruments? God, that’s a shitty calculator. Shitty. Shitty. Shitty. I feel sorry for you. Who’s cooler The Fonz? Or Chachi? Sorry. Trick question. I don’t watch that crap. I watch That’s Incredible ‘cause once in a while it blows my fuckin’ mind. Not often. A lot of their program is juvenile. Or Fight Back with David Horowitz, ‘cause I get sick of the man sticking it to the sheeple. Even though the sheeple deserve it. Hey, what German holiday falls on January 23rd? Stumped. You don’t know? Christ. Sleepwalk through life much, bro? What a gimp, man. What a trip.

J. Biebz x ∞

20 Jazz Funk Greats has a new post about da biebz and the angelic qualities of his slow motion magiks. i think it's worth mentioning. here's a taste:

Extracts from the diary of Marie Gibbs, aged 14.

December 21st 2209AD

Only 4 days til Biebermas and I’m so super excited! We learnt some more about the true meanings of the festival at Sunday school today. They said that many hundreds of years ago, before the coming of J Biebz, some of the world celebrated a Pagan festival named X-mas around this time of year. But in 2010 AD a record company, realising the success of the J Beibz x 800% Internet meme, slowed his follow-up single down by a factor of infinity. The resulting meme was so transcendentally beautiful, that anyone who heard it became entranced, rejecting their currently held beliefs and hailing J Biebz as the prophet and saviour to guide us into blinding light of the eternal rapture. Even the cynics and atheists began to believe

Inception

I saw "Inception" last week up in Grand Rapdids, the day after I got sprayed by a skunk. Probably not the best decision, but the movie was pretty good. Some of the dialogue was a bit too cheesy, but other than that I really liked it. Especially that one dream sequence.

Enter the Ninja

Someone took this at the Chicago show I was at. I started off in the middle so I was a little bit left of the frame, but I kept getting shoved to the right, so by 4:30 or so you can see some good shots of the back of my head (watch for the bald spot and the out-of-beat fist pumps). The same youtube user uploaded a few other decent-quality videos from the same show. (http://www.youtube.com/user/brendanisdead)

Die Antwoord

I just saw Die Antwoord last night in Chicago. I can't believe how amazing it was.

In other news, this new take on "Howl" is nice too.

this whole G20 business

so, it's been reported that the people giving the police their orders thought it was more important to arrest the peaceful protesters in the "free speech zone" than it was to protect the businesses and police cars that were being attacked by the those using black bloc tactics. weird.
(fyi, first vid is a report on the montebello protests from 2007. )
